From Implicit Behaviour to Recognised Competence

About Skills4Sea

Skills4Sea is a European Erasmus+ project focused on improving how non-technical skills are understood, trained and recognised in the maritime sector. While technical competencies are well defined, essential skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership and decision-making are often developed informally and remain difficult to assess.

The project introduces a structured and practical approach to bridge this gap by combining research, training methodologies, and digital tools aligned with European and international maritime standards.

Limited assessment

Most evaluations rely on self-reporting rather than real performance observation.

Human Error

A large number of maritime incidents are linked to failures in communication and decision-making.

Unclear Skills

Key competencies like leadership and teamwork are not clearly defined or standardised.

No structured system

There is no common framework to define and manage non-technical skills in maritime training.
